Stress Reduction Techniques
Stress is ever present in our day to day lives. In small amounts stress can help our bodies and minds to grow and learn new ways to adapt. However, when in excess, stress leads to multiple dysfunctions within the body including negative effects on the nervous system and hormonal axis, and increased inflammation within the body.
At Front Range Functional Medicine we realize the great impact that stress plays in our ability to be healthy and we work with our clients on ways to better handle this stress. Various techniques we encourage, instruct in, and/or refer out to include breathing techniques, meditation, yoga, massage, brain entrainment audio tracks, and the use of a biofeedback systems such as HeartMath.
HeartMath is a biofeedback system that uses heartrate variability, the small changes in our heart rates that occur beat-to-beat, as a measure of balance between the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and calm) parts of the nervous system. With this technique, over time, one is able to achieve a place of calm and balance more rapidly and is able to remain in that state for longer times throughout the day. At our office we can help train you how to use the HeartMath system to help improve your stress levels.
