Sleep Analysis Using SleepImage

Sleep is extremely important and affects many aspects of our lives and health. SleepImage is a non-invasive and inexpensive exam that utilizes a technology known as cardiopulmonary coupling (CPC) to accurately measure sleep quality. CPC utilizes a mathematical analysis of the synchronization between the heart rate variability and respirations to determine what is occurring as one sleeps.

This study is done in one’s own home. Two electrodes are worn on the chest each night and then removed in the morning. The test is generally done 3-5 nights in a row and then the recorder is returned to the provider for analysis.

The results provide an overall Sleep Quality Index (SQI) which is an analysis of how well one slept on that given night. This score takes into account stages of sleep, sleep disordered breathing, awakenings, and movement. A Sleep Apnea Index (SAI) is also obtained which tells us whether one is at risk for having sleep apnea. If this is the case then a more formal sleep study may be recommended.

The test can be repeated over time to see whether various interventions are working to improve sleep.
